The Trans-Canada Highway #16 (also called the Yellowhead Highway) runs through Jasper National Park and is the main route to and from Jasper. The Icefields Parkway connects Jasper with the Trans-Canada Highway #1 near Lake Louise and Banff.

All major roads in Jasper are paved and all major highways have shoulders. Factor in additional time for roadside breaks, slow traffic, and adverse weather conditions. The maximum speed limit inside Jasper National Park is 90 km/hr, with slower limits for Jasper’s wildlife safety in several areas.

Large recreational vehicles may have some trouble navigating the tight hairpin bends of some roads, especially the Mt. Edith Cavell Road.  The Icefields Parkway has long, steep grades of 8-11% especially near Bow Lake and when accending or decending the Sunwapta Pass in the Columbia Icefield area.
