Jasper Lodging and Hotels: Columbia Icefields
If you’re are planning a trip to Jasper, chances are you’re also planning on seeing the wider range of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta. For most vacations, this means a drive from Jasper down to Lake Louise and Banff, visiting the Columbia Icefields along the way.
Now, this drive can be done in one day, but why rush it? Jasper hotels and lodging always put you in the most beautiful settings the Rockies have to offer, and the Columbia Icefields are no exception.
Now, there isn’t a whole heck of a lot when it comes to lodging between Lake Louise and Jasper, but there is The Crossing resort.
You’ll find it at the Saskatchewan River Crossing, in the heart of the Icefields Parkway and the Canadian Rockies. The motel was originally built by George Brewster in 1948. The building has managed to hold onto the raw charm that attracted people to places like Jasper from the start.
The Columbia Icefields is a great place to stop for a visit on a drive between Banff and Jasper.
And though it retains a rustic feel, and it’s virtually in the middle of nowhere, The Crossing has top-notch accommodations, and can serve fairly large parties. The Crossing has been updated several times over the years and it now has 66 motel rooms along with a 250 seat dining room, 125 seat cafeteria, 70 seat pub and a 3000 square foot gift shop.
Bas As it is located in the middle of one of the scenic highways in the world and between two of the biggest and most touristy towns in the Canadian Rockies, the The Crossing can make a really good stopping off point that allows you to really get the most out of this drive.
Considering its unique location, the prices are extremely affordable, especially when it’s not busy season. The mountain view rooms feature a prominent view of Mount Murchison and Mount Sarbach. Both mountains were named after the first Europeans to reach the respective summits. If you are not under much of a time restraint while in Jasper, Lake Louise and the Rockies, stop in at the Crossing Motel and really feel like you are far from the maddening crowd.
